­Gary J. Kurtzman, MD, Chairman of the Board
 
Dr Kurtzman is Managing Director in the Life Sciences Group at Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. (www.safeguard.com) (NYSE: SFE), a provider of growth capital for entrepreneurial and innovative life sciences and technology companies, where he is responsible for identifying and partnering with companies focused on molecular diagnostics, medical devices, regenerative medicine and specialty pharmaceuticals services. As part of Safeguard’s Life Sciences Group, Dr. Kurtzman brings more than 17 years of experience in operations and investments, leveraging his expertise to enable businesses to grow their products and services, as well as to discover new partnering potential. Dr. Kurtzman currently serves on the board of directors for Safeguard Scientifics’ partner companies: Advanced BioHealing, Alverix, Avid Radiopharmaceutics, Molecular Biometrics, NuPathe and Tengion. Gary was previously managing director of BioAdvance, an early stage life sciences investor, and held various positions at Pluvita Corporation, Genovo and Avigen, and Gilead Sciences.
 
Dr. Kurtzman is a board-certified internist with a hematology sub-specialty. He is the author of more than 40 peer reviewed scientific publications, reviews and book chapters and the inventor on 18 issued U.S. patents. He is currently a lecturer in Health Care Management at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he teaches bioentrepreneurship. Dr. Kurtzman received his BS from Stanford University and his MD from Washington University and post-doctoral training at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and Stanford University.
 
 
Stephen Socolof, Board of Directors
 
Mr. Socolof, Managing Partner, was a founder of New Venture Partners. He has spent his career focusing on corporate innovation. At New Venture Partners, Mr. Socolof leads deals in semiconductors, software, storage and wireless.
 
Previously, Mr. Socolof joined Lucent Technologies in 1996 to plan for and establish the New Ventures Group responsible for developing spin-out ventures to commercialize technology from Bell Labs. The Lucent Technologies New Ventures Group became the benchmark corporate venture organization for external commercialization of internally-developed technology. Before joining Lucent, Mr. Socolof spent eight years with the management consulting firm Booz, Allen & Hamilton Inc., where he was a leader of the practice focused on enhancing corporate innovation and increasing the productivity of the R&D organization. At Booz, Allen, he worked with many global technology corporations to improve the return on their R&D investments by enabling them to identify and bring new products and businesses to market more quickly and successfully.
 
Mr. Socolof holds a BA in Economics and a BS in Mathematical Sciences from Stanford University and received his MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College, where he was a Tuck Scholar. He currently serves on the board of the Center for the Study of Private Equity at the Tuck School.
 
 
Richard C. Tarbox III, Board of Directors
 
Mr. Tarbox, is a industry veteran with more than 35 years experience in global sourcing, marketing, operations and business development in the healthcare market.  Mr. Tarbox has held numerous executive leadership positions in the healthcare industry, most notably with Quidel Corporation, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., Ostex International, Inc., AHSC/Baxter International/Cardinal Health and Marion Laboratories, Inc.
 Mr. Tarbox is a graduate of the University of Washington and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He has served on boards of emerging technology companies including, Ostex, DenOptix, Metrika Laboratories, BioSeparations and currently serves on the BOD of ClearData Networks, Inc. He has served the industry as a member of the Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) Educational Foundation BOD.
